Guangzhou Evergrande have notched up another impressive away victory last night, this time at Liaoning. A strike of supreme quality from Jiang Ning approaching half time and second half finishes from Gao Lin and Conca were enough to ease Hengda to victory in Shenyang.
However, perhaps the main talking point of the evening should be the behaviour and antics of Liaoning Football Club. In the corresponding fixture last year, Liaoning were lucky to escape punishment for a number of incidents involving their playing staff.
This time around, it seemed the fans of this club wanted a piece of the action as well. No sooner had the game kicked off, it had to be halted as security and stadium announcers tried to calm home fans who were trying to get at the away supporters and down to pitch level.
As Guangzhou started to take a firm control of the game in the 2nd period, Lioaning well and truly started to throw their rattles out of their prams, perhaps quite literally. Bottles rained down upon the visiting side and Guangzhou quite rightly refused to restart plays while this barrage continued. It also seems laser technology has now reached the far North as fans seemed to enjoy practicing on Hengda players.
Perhaps, feeling they too had rattles to throw, Liaoning players found consolation for losing the game by kicking out at the nearest Hengda player. Yu Hanchao rightly receiving his marching orders for an undisguised hack.
Guangzhou striker Gao Lin didn’t help matters by gesturing towards the home fans after scoring his goal. After the match he said of the Liaoning supporters, “If fans want to hurl abuse, they can, this is their right – my goal was the best response to give. As far as the abuse goes, some people with heckle , others will just enjoy the atmosphere, I can understand it.”
It will be interesting to see what punishment the CFA/CSL will now impose upon Liaoning following these incidents. Hopefully, Guangzhou will present their own report to any tribunal so that Liaoning Football Club can clean up its image.

How about the CSL making Liaoning do a Fernerbahce and only allowing women and children in to watch the next two home games?

I didn’t know about the banner, what’s this about?
I really hope GZ voice their protests about the incidents, especially as Liaoning were quick to label Muruiqui for taking a strand of hair in an altercation they instigated.
However, I think GZ will just let matters lie, which would be a shame as it would allow Liaoning to continue antics belonging to the darker side of football.
The CSL is definitely going to punish Liaoning, mainly for the attack on the security guard outside the stadium. Their behavior during the match wasn’t that far out of the ordinary in the CSL, I’d expect a minor fine, but nothing too heavy.
