It’s easy to see why this may appear to be the Chinese Super League’s hottest transfer window ever, however for me it’s been utterly boring (outside of Anelka, of course). If you told me at the beginning of November that the biggest transfer would be a swap of Zhao Xuri for Yang Hao or and injured Deng Zhuoxiang returning to Jiangsu, I’d be thoroughly disappointed. With all the talk of Yang Zhi, Yu Dabao, Feng Renliang Yu Hanchao, and Wu Xi moving, it looked like it was going to be an action packed winter as teams tried to do everything they could to match Guangzhou while Guangzhou tried to stack themselves even further.
It seems that most clubs decided it was smarter to spend their money on higher quality foreign imports than before instead of (over)paying for top domestic talent. It also may be the case that Guangzhou, intimidated by their ACL group opponents, decided it’s best to spend their money next year.
If you look at the list below, it’s going to be an exciting 2012 season. With just over a month before it kicks off, let’s take a look at the current transfer picture during what turned out to be a fairly quiet close season. Note: The “Foreigners” section lists the name of each team’s foreigners signed for 2012 with new-to-the-Chinese Super League players in italics.

Just thought I’d mention that Henan’s Christopher Katongo was captain of African champions Zambia, who just beat Ivory Coast, which had guys like Drogba, the Toures and Gervinho, in the finals.
