The 2014 Chinese Super League season came to a close with drama in three matches that saw Guangzhou Evergrande win their fourth straight league title while Dalian Aerbin went down.
Shandong Luneng 1-1 Guangzhou Evergrande
Liu Binbin and his teammates surprised Evergrande early, but it wasn’t enough to change the course of the title race as Elkeson equalized late in the first half giving Evergrande everything they needed to secure a fourth straight title.
Beijing Guoan 0-0 Henan Jianye
Meanwhile in Beijing, Guoan couldn’t find a way to break down Henan’s defensive tactics and time wasting, guaranteeing Jianye another year in the top flight and providing their fans with much to celebrate.
Shanghai Shenxin 1-1 Dalian Aerbin
For the first time since the beginning of professional football in China, there will be no club from Dalian in the top flight. It was always going to be tough for Aerbin and things looked even bleaker when they went down one in the first 20 minutes, they came back to score late on, but it wasn’t enough.
Hangzhou Greentown 1-1 Changchun Yatai
This was the result that everyone in China could have (and did) predicted and it was no surprise when it came to be. The sides split the points and guaranteed their own safety.
Jiangsu Sainty 1-3 Guangzhou R&F
Guangzhou end the season strong as they get ready for the ACL qualifying round in less than four months time while Sainty were busy looking ahead to the CFA Cup Final.
Tianjin Teda 3-3 Shanghai East Asia
Lots of goals at least made this end of season affair exciting enough.
Liaoning Whowin 1-1 Shanghai Shenhua
The less said about this, the better.
Guizhou Renhe 3-2 Harbin Yiteng
Harbin didn’t go down without a fight, but much like the story of their season, they didn’t have enough to pull out the desired result in the end.
