Hong Kong Round up: Five Wins in a Row for Sun Pegasus

Hong Kong correspondent Christopher KL Lau brings a regular round-up of latest news and developments and other footballing points of interest from the SAR.…

It maybe early on in the season but dark horses Sun Pegasus are definitely staking a claim as title contenders for the Hong Kong premier league. A deserved and comprehensive 3-0 win over fellow title contenders South China has laid down the marker for the rest of the league to follow and has meant that Sun Pegasus have now won five games in row and have a maximum 15 points.  Due to the Asian games and the vast number of rescheduled games, many teams like Kitchee have played less games but the ferocity of the Sun Pegasus attack and the stubborn ruggedness of their defense are definitely something all the premier league teams will have to contend with in what could be the closet league competition in years.

The mouth watering top of the table clash was played at Hong Kong stadium which was sadly sparsely filled though the game was shown live on Hong Kong wide television at a 8pm primetime  slot so this ensured a large home watching audience. Sun Pegasus were first off the mark in the 4th minute when full back Tong Kin-man drilled a low shot into the South China goal. From here on, South China were in disarray with South China’s goalkeeper Cristian Mora being the busier of the two keepers. Admir Rascic of Sun Pegasus was at the heart of the attacks and was constantly chasing down and urging his team mates forward.

Sun Pegasus increased their lead in the 39th minute when Ju Yingzhi drove another low shot in and the game was slipping away from a normally dominate South China whom looked increasingly out of sorts. Rascic got his just rewards in the 71st minute when he poached another goal to make the scoreline 3-0 and out of reach of the “Caroliners”. Sun Pegasus could have had more goals but for careless finishing and heroics from Mora. The season may have just started but   Sun Pegasus have finally come together to show that they can challenge and even win the premier league.
