Misimovic looking to leave Guizhou amid Olympiakos interest

According to reports in both Chinese and European media, Guizhou Renhe midfielder Zvjezdan Misimovic has requested a transfer following interest from Greek giants Olympiakos.

Misimovic, 30, is believed to be enticed by the idea of competing in the UEFA Champions League next season, in the hope that it will increase his chances of making his country’s squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Greek media outlet Ethnos reports Bosnia coach Safet Sušić as saying: “He told me that he really has interest in joining Olympiakos. He thinks it is a good option as they are one of Greece’s strongest teams. They are in the Champions League nearly every year.

“Regarding his role in the Bosnia side, moving to Olympiakos would be a good choice. He will have the chance to play against many of Europe’s top sides.”

Misimovic missed Guizhou’s 4-0 defeat to Guangzhou Evergrande on Wednesday night, but has generally been an important player for the club since joining from Dinamo Moscow in January.

At present, the Bosnian lies joint top of the CSL charts for assists with seven in his eight league games thus far. He was, though, unable to prevent the Guiyang side from exiting the AFC Champions League at the group stage.
