This will be a new feature where we’ll try and bring you all the stories that we may have otherwise missed now that our News in Brief feed is down. Here’s the first edition…
–With Dario Conca likely on his way out at Evergrane, the Cantonese giants are in hot pursuit of Botafogo youngster Elkeson. Guangzhou is said to be offering the Brazilian in the neighborhood of6 million euros, though European clubs are also pursuing him.
–After being relegated this season, Henan Construction has turned to Tang Yaodong to bring them back into the top flight. Tang was previously in charge of Henan during the club’s best season in 2009, leading them to a third place finish and earning a spot in the Asian Champions League.
–Joel Griffiths is saying that he has yet to decide where he’ll ply his trade during the 2013 season. He also said that while he doesn’t regret going to Shanghai Shenhua, he misses Beijing, both the city and the fans. While he knows it is unrealistic, he wishes he could return to the capital.
–The Guangzhou City Government held a gala for double winners Evergrande this week, awarding the club RMB3 million for its success.
–Speaking of Evergrande, they may already be preparing to spend that money, the latest news is that they’ve come to turns with Henan keeper Zeng Cheng and the contract is just waiting to be signed.
–How hot is the Guoan hotseat? Word has come out that new Beijing Guoan manager Aleksandar Stanojević’s contract includes a provision that says he can be fired without compensation if the club goes five matches without a win.
–And while we’re on the subject of the capital, Guoan youngster Li Hanbo won the fan voted award for AFC Goal of the Year for his strike against the Brisbane Roar. He dominated the online voting with over 66% of the votes.
–It’s still unknown where Shanghai Shenxin will play next season, which is making it very hard to hold onto their players. Shanghai East Asia is looking at a number of Shenxin’s locals, especially former Xu Genbao graduate Jiang Zhipeng.
Is there any chance Shenxin will return to Nanchang?
