WEF Special: Your essential guide to the biggest CSL weekend in years

All eyes in the Asian football world are on China this weekend as the CSL prepares for its biggest fixture in years – the league’s top two face off in the penultimate game in a match Beijing Guoan must win to prevent Guangzhou Evergrande winning a fourth successive title.

This weekend, Wild East Football’s correspondents have pulled out all the stops to deliver a king’s feast of footballing insights into the massive match in Guangzhou plus numerous other clashes with a prize at stake for the victor.

Up in Beijing, Guoan correspondent Bcheng gives his thoughts on the big match itself.  In Shanghai, Editor Cameron Wilson explains which teams need what result in the race for the CSL title, Asian Champions League (ACL) qualification and safety from relegation.

This week’s Pub Talk goes into even more detail as correspondents give their expert views on the blockbuster fixture card, whilst Donald Ross gives us the word in the ACL race with Guanghzhou R&F favourites to qualify.

At the bottom, James Reeve reports on Changchun Yatai’s effort to pull away from a very intense and tight relegation mire.

The rest of the league is not neglected of course, as Andy Strong offers his take on Shanghai East Asia’s ultimately unsuccessful effort to make it to the ACL, whilst cross-town rivals Shanghai Shenhua are under Steve Crook’s microscope after their ACL hopes ended on Thursday.

Last but not least, there’s even time to look at the other side of the relegation race, as Jamie McIlroy outlines Wuhan Zall’s chances of promotion from China League One.

A great weekend of football beckons and ‘s all-start team of correspondents has it all covered. Let the football begin.

  1. I was out and got back to see the last 15 mins of Hengda – Guoan and Fuli – Yiteng.

Chalk and cheese games and well done to Guoan for keeping the title open for another week (and getting a victory at Tianhe).

But GREAT to see Fuli clinch 3rd place and significant in that I didn’t cost them the game (it would have been hard to throw away a 4-1 lead when I tuned in however).
