Due to a Saturday night concert at Worker’s Stadium, last night saw Beijing Guoan close out this round against Guizhou, and as has been the case each time these sides meet, there was plenty of drama.
Beijing Guoan 2-1 Guizhou Renhe
The Men in Green were back at home last night needing three points to reduce Guangzhou Evergrande’s temporary double digit lead back down to seven. Guoan controlled the run of play and was rewarded late in the first half when Dejan Damjanovic was able to control a long ball and slide it over to Erton Fejzullahu. Things looked worrisome for awhile when against the run of play, Yu Hai beat Xu Yunlong to equalize early in the second half, but Guoan kept pressing and in the 87th minute, it was Erton again, set up by Damjanovic again. The late winner and the much needed three points means that the title race will continue for at least another week. There will also certainly be some fallout for Guizhou, as manager Zhu Jiong, unsatisifed with the referees and goaded by the fans, offered a middle finger to the Guoan supporters.
