Guangzhou R&F have announced their first signing of what is reported to be a big off-season of activity for the club, securing South Korea defender Jang Hyun-Soo from FC Tokyo.
Jang, 22, has signed a three-year deal with the Yuexiushan side after passing medical examinations on Saturday, with his arrival announced on social media site Weibo on Sunday afternoon.
A former Olympic colleague of Evergrande star Kim Young-Gwon, Jang himself comes with a similar reputation for playing the ball out from defence and was linked with a move to Premier League side Liverpool in 2012.
He now links up with Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side as their AFC-registered player, with Australians Eddy Bosnar and Rostyn Griffiths having departed the club earlier this winter.
Eriksson’s side are keen to secure a place in the AFC Champions League over the next 12-months, with heavy investment likely as they seek to follow the path trodden by city rivals Evergrande.
At present, Davi, Rafael Coelho and Yakubu are set to remain at the club as registered foreign players for the 2014 season, while the club have been linked with a number of high profile Chinese recruits including defender Li Xuepeng and left winger Song Boxuan.
