A very exciting penultimate round of the 2013 Chinese Super League season saw several significant results including an unexpected 3-0 win Hangzhou victory over Guizhou which saw the Yangtze delta side secure CSL football next year. Fellow strugglers Jiangsu Sainty fell 1-0 to a resurgent Qingdao and both of these teams go into the final round knowing only a victory can guarantee their participation in top-flight football next year.
Staying with the relegation dogfight, Changchun thought they had done enough after leading Shanghai Shenhua by a goal for much of the match, but Columbian playmaker Giovanni Moreno stole the show and all three points for the home side with two goals in the second half, including a contender for goal of the season just two minutes from time. Changchun are now odds on to go down, they must win and hope Sainty or Qingdao slip up this weekend.
At the top of the table the only other game which counted towards something saw Guoan crush Shandong 3-1 in Jinan to secure continental football for another season. And in another item of note, Dalian Aerbin’s 3-1 victory over Liaoning was marred by a very odd “hand of god” goal which none of the match officials spotted.
