Following the capture of young Australian forward Bernie Ibini, Shanghai East Asia have returned to Central Coast Mariners to strengthen their squad for the 2013 season, signing experienced forward Daniel McBreen on loan for the A-League off-season.
McBreen, now 36, enjoyed a fine 2012-13 season with the Mariners, scoring 19 goals in 27 league appearances for the club alongside Ibini.
Given his experience, having played in English football, the hope will be that he can help to bring the best out of what is a young but talented East Asia forward line.
“It is something I am looking forward to,” he told reporters following confirmation of the transfer. “Obviously Bernie has gone there. It’s a wonderful city and a club that is looking to do things and get bigger and better, so to be part of that will be a great experience.”
East Asia coach Gao Hongbo has since confirmed that the club are not looking to bring in any further recruits this summer, with the two Australian additions expected to be enough for the club to meet their objectives this campaign.
