Guangzhou Evergrande has grown all the stronger with the signing of Huang Bowen from Jeonbuk Hyndai for a transfer fee of over $2 million. Huang arrived in Guangzhou this morning and has already undergone his physical with the team.
Huang has spent the past two seasons with Jeonbuk, though injury woes have kept him out of the starting lineup and only allowed him to feature in 29 matches. Previously, Huang was with Beijing Guoan, where he was a regular in the starting lineup, before injury issues kept him out of the lineup for much of 2009 and 2010.
Evergrande has agreed to a multiyear deal with Huang that will see the player earn $1.1 million a year. It’s a surprise move as it looked like he’d be heading to Evergrande’s crosstown rivals R&F, but Evergrande’s big money carried the day. It’s kind of a surprise that Huang would go to the champions, Evergrande is not lacking at the position of defensive midfield, already featuring Zhao Xuri, who took Huang’s position on the national team, and Qin Sheng, who is also a recent national team callup.
More will be made later in the week of Huang’s promise that if he returns to China, he would return to Beijing Guoan. For the time being, we’ll just say the strong just keep spending their massive funds to get stronger.
