Guangzhou to punish South American stars for no-show

Guangzhou Evergrande will punish its entire South American contingent, Dario Conca, Muriqui, Cleo and Paulo, for failing to report for training on January 3, according to Chinese media reports.

The quartet of stragglers have all since returned to the club. Paulo and Renato Cajá 420,000 RMB ($66,000)  for going AWOL. He was subsequently loaned out to Brazilian Serie A side Pronte Preta.

The club is expected to officially announce the exact details of the punishments in the next day or so.

  1. This is not unusual for Brazilian players. I can remember the same thing happening in the J-league. One player in particular, Emerson of Urawa Reds was eventually kicked out of the club for his continued late shows.

    As for the CSL this year, i’m season ticketless. There was far too much demand, the prices have gone up and fans are now expected to remain in the same seat all year (UK style). I will just go to a few games and maybe watch some of the bigger teams against GZ Fuli also.
