CSL Round 25: ACL/Relegation Watch

Chinese Super League logoThe top two spots look the same as always, but that crucial third position changes as Liaoning beats Chengdu and Changchun only manages a point away at Dalian. Jiangsu jump up the table and are right in the thick of it alongside Shandong. Tianjin, Hangzhou, and Qingdao just keep hanging on, in the picture, but not really in contention. A coaching change in Shaanxi (bringing in Gao Hongbo) probably won’t be enough to keep them in the race, especially as they host Guangzhou tonight.

ACL positioning

  1. ↔  Guangzhou (58 points)
  2. ↔ Beijing (46 points)
  3. ↑ Liaoning (40 points)
  4. ↓ Changchun (39 points)
  5. ↑ Jiangsu (37 points)
  6. ↑ Shandong (37 points)
  7. ↓ Tianjin (35 points)
  8. ↔ Hangzhou (35 points)
  9. ↑ Qingdao (35 points)
  10. ↓ Shaanxi (34 points)

Nothing changed much at the other end of the table, Dalian gained a point and remain just barely in the relegation picture while the other three sides were cannon fodder for better teams. It seems it will be more of the same tonight as Shenzhen host Liaoning, Chengdu host Jiangsu, and Nanchang head to Changchun. With those matches on the schedule, I don’t see any change to this picture come Thursday.
Relegation zone

  1. ↔ Dalian (27 points)
  2. ↔ Nanchang (21 points)
  3. ↔ Shenzhen (20 points)
  4. ↔ Chengdu (18 points)
