Jiangsu Sainty have been in fine form recently, winning five of their past eight matches with all victories coming by way of shut out. A big part of the clubs recent success can be attributed to the teams Australian duo, Alex Wilkinson and Bruce Djite.
Wilkinson has started in the back line in 12 of Jiangsu’s 13 matches this season. His presence was one of the reasons Jiangsu have only given up 13 goals thus far, sixth lowest in the Chinese Super League. Djite on the other hand has been an increasingly popular choice for head coach Dragan Okuka to call upon. He is second in scoring on the team with three goals to his name, all which have be scored in the past four matches.
Both of these Aussies were on loan from their respective clubs in the A-League with Wilkinson coming from the Central Coast Mariners and Djite from Adelaide United FC. This past week both Wilkinson and Djite reached the end of their loan period, meaning they both had to return to their Australian clubs, thus leaving Jiangsu Sainty without two of its better players.
The Jiangsu front office wasted no time finding new players as just this week it picked up two new foreigners to help fill the void left by the departed Aussies. On the attacking side the club signed Serbian striker Aleksandar Jevtić. Coming by way of transfer from Serbian super club Red Star Belgrade, Jevtić’s hefty price tag cost Jiangsu ten million RMB. With this high transfer fee hopefully he can prove his worth and can help Jiangsu continue it’s winning ways, and hopefully he doesn’t miss a shot like this again.
To help fill the back line Jiangsu signed Uzbekistani Komoliddin Tadjiev. The 28-year old defender comes to the team from Uzbek League powerhouse FC Pakhtakor Tashkent and has also earned seven caps with the Uzbekistan national team.
Along with signing Tadjiev the club also added 26 year old Chinese defender Liu Yu from Chengdu. Yu earned his first national team appearance last March in a friendly against Honduras.
Oh bugger. You couldn’t have tried a bit harder to buy Djite could you?
