Sydney FC v Shanghai Shenhua: ACL action tonight

Shenhua coach Xi Zhikang presents stand-in captain Dai Lin

Injury-hit Shenhua are in Australia looking for their first victory of the season against Sydney tonight in the Asian Champions League group stage. The odds are stacked against the boys from Hongkou though, first choice keeper Wang Dalei and club captain Yu Tao both didn’t travel and miss the game through injury.

Coach Xi Zhikang’s replacement choice for captain is somewhat surprising. 23-year-old defender Dai Lin (pictured here with Xi Zhikang) will wear the armband tonight. He made a bit of a fuss last year after calling then club coach Miroslav Blazevic “an old man” on his Sina microblog. Seems neither this nor his youth is a problem for Xi Zhikang.

Catch the game tonight on Shanghai Sports, kick off 6pm.

  1. Hey we scored a goal! Whoops, so did they! 1-1 30 min. Our #2 GK looks shaky. Nice group of Blue Devil away supporters behind the goal. Can we get a point?
