Asian Football Feast

As I was saying the other day in my posts about the Shenhua v Sydney Asian Champions League (ACL) match, one of the great things about Australia joining the Asian confederation a few years back was that it exponentially increased the amount of English language coverage about the game in Asia. Much of what’s written in the Australian press is of course coming from a predictable “wog ball” perspective, similar to the kind of nonconstructive and useless commentary you see about football in the mainstream US media. They don’t much like football in the colonies, for some reason.

However, despite the Australian A-League struggling a bit recently, there’s too many sports-mad types down there for football not to gain a proper foothold. It was after all, the first sport there to have an Australian national league. So its no surprise that there’s a growing base of football lovers in the country who are bringing us more and more quality coverage of the game. As a matter of fact, your correspondent almost fell out of his chair last week when he discovered another blog in English partly featuring Chinese football. Asian Football Feast is a most welcome addition to the sparsely-populated English language Chinese football blogger-sphere.
