As mentioned earlier this week, the Asian Football Confederation has been meeting in Kuala Lumpar and deciding a number of issues regarding the upcoming year in Asian football, the most important to China being the number of spots it would get in the 2013 Asian Champions League.
China was originally scheduled to have three direct positions and one playoff position, but in the end the AFC decided to restore China’s four spots, meaning Guizhou Renhe will not need to qualify for the Champions League. The other three Chinese representatives will be Guangzhou Evergrande, Jiangsu Sainty, and Beijing Guoan. This year, the East Asia spots are to be divided up as follows:
Japan: 4 (all direct slots)
Korea Republic: 4 (all direct slots)
China: 4 (all direct slots)
Uzbekistan: 1 (direct slot)
Australia: 1+1 (direct+playoff)
Thailand: 1+1 (direct+playoff)
any changes to the number of foreigners is unlikely to take place during the 2013 ACL. The ACL draw is expected to take place on December 6th and we’ll have full coverage for you here at .
